River Rescue 2013 (Volunteers Needed!)

UPDATE:  Due to high water levels, the River Rescue Cleanup scheduled for June 1st is cancelled.  We will be collaborating with JRBP on a cleanup currently scheduled for October 5th.  We will post an announcement as we get closer to that date.  Many thanks to all those who volunteered to assist, your willingness to help is greatly appreciated!

The River Rescue cleanup will be on
June 1st from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  We’ll be cleaning a rarely floated section from Tailwaters Access (just below Lake Springfield Dam) down to just past the Hwy 160 Bridge (South Campbell) .  All participants need to register with James River Basin Partnership at www.jamesriverbasin.com   Plan on dropping your boat and gear at the put-in, driving to the takeout and catching the bus for the return shuttle.

This year we are going back to our roots!  We will provide shuttle, trash bags and gloves.  Volunteers will need to bring their own lunch and gear.  There are a limited number of boats to borrow and those can be reserved through JRBP.

We REALLY need to have as many OMP paddlers at this event as possible, as you will be relied on as experienced paddlers.  We’re counting on OMP folks to oversee and lend assistance where needed to the general floating public.

The Dam Jam Concert will be held on the square in downtown Springfield on June 8th (one week after the River Rescue, details coming soon!).  OMP will have a booth at the concert and will need volunteers to help sell raffle tickets, answer questions and look pretty.

Contact info for River Rescue is Jason Frantz or James River Basin Partnership.
