OMP certainly is a canoe & paddle club, but that’s not all we do. We work with the Parks Board, Missouri Stream Team, James River Basin Partnership, Missouri Department of Conservation and other services across the Ozarks to help protect our waterways. With the help of our sponsors (Bass Pro, Dynamic Earth, Ozark Adventures, & Ozark Mountain Trading Company), we help organize river cleanups and look after watersheds, participate in different fund raising for charities such as the Sertoma Club’s annual chili cook-off, provide safety personnel for events like the Ozark’s Greenway Adventure Race and our annual “Float for Independence”, and we assist in Drury’s Neighborhood Alliance program where we are able to introduce 5th graders to the watershed ecosystem and show them how we are all connected.
Participation in the Ozark Mountain Paddlers allows you to become involved in safety, conservation, community, education and recreation through paddle sports and the outdoors with people who share a common interest. If learning a new skill is what you’re interested in, we also hold whitewater and recreational clinics (for kayaks and canoes) to teach proper paddling techniques and safety to the general public. Our goal is to teach people how to enjoy the Ozark’s waterways safely, and be prepared for the elements, while conserving our precious natural resources for future generations to enjoy. As a club we are growing in numbers and the need for our numbers is growing.
No matter if you like the outdoor and paddle sports part of the club, or if you’re more into class settings and learning a new skill, getting involved in teaching, or if you just want to voice your opinions to help protect our waterways, come on out and get involved…you can make a difference!
