Many in our paddling community are mourning the loss of our dear friend, mother, sister, and wife – Pat Owens. It’s hard to summarize the radiance this woman brought to all of our lives, so it only seems appropriate to post her own words for you to read. Thank you, Mike, for posting this on Facebook so that I was able to find it today.
“Pat Crawford Owens Jensen (way too many names)
I had more wonderful friends and loving family than I would ever have the nerve to ask for or that I deserved. For them I am incredibly grateful. My life has been full and fun from horses to canoes to rafts, books and music, teaching at Marshfield High School and photographing both there and in Springfield – it couldn’t get better than that. I’ve seen Joan Baez in concert and the northern lights in the Northwest Territory of Canada, camped among elk in rut, been down the Grand Canyon four times and down the Buffalo countless times, all with the best people there are.
My son is alive, well, happy and married to one of my favorite people. I am loved by and married to a wonderful man. My sisters and beautiful stepmother are beside me on this last journey as are all of my lovely sisters who aren’t related.
To all of you who have touched my life, thank you. I love you all.”
No services are planned per Pat’s request. If you would like to contribute in her name, her favorite charity is Heifer International (www.heifer.org / 1-800-422-0474) or to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org / 1-646-290-5154).
Love to you all….hug one another….get on the river.
Christy
