August’s Monthly Float will have something for day trippers and overnighters as well. This float will be on the Eleven Point River on August 24 and 25 (SATURDAY-SUNDAY). You will need to be at the Greer Springs Access on Hwy 19 (8 miles north of Alton by 8:45 am Sat. the 24th for a 9:00 am shuttle. Please be on time because the shuttle takes approximately 1hr and 20 mins round trip so our launch will be between 10:30 and 11:00 am.
There will be 2 options: Day trippers may choose Greer Springs to Whitten Access (11.4 miles). Overnighters will camp Saturday night either at or in the vicinity of Horseshoe Bend campground (9.8 miles). Sunday morning the overnighters will launch around 9:30 am and continue the trip to Riverton takeout (9.2 miles). This trip will be BYOG (bring your own grub).
Judy and I are going to float this trip on August 6 and 7 (Tues and Wed) to scout the river and will be getting a shuttle from Eleven Point Canoe Livery for $35 (unless someone would like to join us and work out the shuttle). Please RSVP me as soon as possible, note which trip option you are choosing, and if you would be willing to drop off a shuttle driver to pick up their vehicle at Greer Springs Access if needed (8 miles off the return route to Springfield). Judy and I will take one shuttle driver and their gear and boat back to Greer Springs, but may need someone else (depending on how many paddlers we have going). RSVP’s are very important so shuttles can be worked out for both overnighters and day trippers. For those who would like to camp overnight but only paddle to Whitten Access, please mention that choice in your RSVP. We can work out the shuttles for both Whitten and Riverton take outs when we know how many are going and for which trip. RSVP to Daryl Tumbleson at sales@campacopia.com or 972-693-3239
SLIGHT MODIFICATION OF PLANS
We are going to be joined by some others from the Arkansas Canoe Club plus a few more who have asked to join since they are considering club membership in OMP. Judy and I have been talking to Richards Canoe Livery and they will let us all camp as a group for $3.00 each on their place. They have plenty of room and there are fire rings and tables there. At least some of the ACC club folks will be camping there as well. This will present some additional options. Greer Springs landing can be sort of a mad house between 8 and 11 on Saturday mornings so it will be best to meet up at the Campground at Richards Canoe only 2 miles from Greer Springs on Hwy 19. Now we can either take the time with the whole group figuring out how to shuttle ourselves or we can leave cars at Richards and pay them $20 bucks a boat to bring buses and or vans and trailers and pick us up at Riverton and shuttle everyone back. This to me seems a simple plan, however we can still discuss other options at Richards either Friday night or Saturday morning and after everyone deciding which way they want to handle the shuttles, we either start shuttles or just drop canoes and gear at Greer Springs access and get the cars back to Richards and then shuttle back to Greer Springs. Leaving the cars at Richards offers better security and will give us an earlier launch at Greer Springs since we avoid the 1 hr and 20 minute shuttle. The ACC bunch has done this several times and Richards has been very accommodating in every case. The river should have good flow and there should be plenty of time for breaks, fishing, and side trips along the way. So whether you are camping Friday night or not, please meet at Richards Campground between 8:45 and 9:00 AM Saturday morning and NOT at Greer Springs. If anyone has any suggestions or questions please call Daryl at 972-693-3239. I would also appreciate an RSVP saying who is coming and when. Thanks.
Daryl
