Flat Creek Trip Report – 2/19/22

by Ozark Mountain Paddlers on February 24, 2022

A good time was had by all on Flat Creek  (2-19-22) lead by our fearless leader Craig Hesington. The creek was up and the weather approaching warmish (maybe 50˚F) but sunny and with a good push from the creek, the miles zoomed by as we took in the sights two foot long icicles hanging from the bluffs on the shady side.

The eagles were out. We must have seen six or eight. We took lunch on a nice sunny gravel bar and basked in the warmth of our morning accomplishments… then… as we have all heard “its not IF, but WHEN you take a swim”, yours truly (Captian Rick) took a sweeper log to the chest and over I went!

After a refreshing swim to the opposite side of the creek holding on to my paddle the rescue of my boat had already started. It took four grown men, a throw rope, various long skinny logs and yes, even some tree climbing to recover it, but the task was done! After a bit of shivering, the loan of a dry towel and clothes and some more very careful paddling on my part, we all made it home with stories to tell.

I would like to thank all my fellow paddlers: Craig, Marty, Howard, Terry, Clint and Larry for your hard work and morale support…

-Captain Rick-
