Buffalo River – Trip Report – 10/26/19 – 10/27/19

by Ozark Mountain Paddlers on November 4, 2019

What started as 10 people being interested in the Buffalo River overnighter dwindled to 6, then 5, then 4. While 3 of us were having coffee at the Lead Hill Diner, the 4th texted to say they were having car trouble and had to turn back.  So, after a leisurely and filling breakfast, Chris Torrisi, Travis Creswell and I (Terri Bradley), along with my dog,  Chase, headed thru the rain to the Hwy 14 Bridge put-in. The water was up and the current swift so we only paddled an hour or so in the rain until we got to the 3 Sisters gravel bar across from Toney Bend Bluff.

Within 30 minutes we were sitting under Torrisi’s parawing, drinking coffee with Irish Cream and waiting for the rain to stop. Not too shabby (in my opinion). The rain didn’t last long and we were able to set up our tents, build a fire and heat up some fajitas. Yum! Travis provided some festive lights and we were set for the evening.

The next morning was crisp and foggy so we built up the fire and, you got it, drank coffee & Irish cream. After the fog burned off and dried our gear we had a leisurely and delicious breakfast and packed up camp. The river was beautiful and swift and the scenery breathtaking. The challenge of the previous day was forgotten as we enjoyed the float in the sunshine, not having to paddle, only to steer.

Too soon we were at Rush and at the end of another amazing adventure with great friends. This is how I love to ‘do’ life. Until next time friends, “Keep calm and Paddle on”.   -Terri Bradley
