April 20 — Twelve Rivers Float and Earth Day Cleanup Combo Event

by Ozark Mountain Paddlers on April 17, 2013

UPDATE:  Due to high water, the cleanup effort has been revised.  All paddlers borrowing boats from James River Basin Partnership for this event will be cleaning up on Lake Springfield.  We will still be running a shuttle van for river cleanup participants who wish to run the river, but you will be paddling at your own risk.  It is STRONGLY advised that those cleaning the river be experienced with high water, wear a pfd at all times and have all necessary safety gear.

Our April Twelve Rivers Float on the James is gong to coincide with the James River Basin Partnerships’ Earth Day Cleanup on the same stretch of river, and what better way to see the river than to see it clean?  We’ll meet at Crighton Access on Saturday, April 20th, between 11:30 and noon, run vehicles to Southwood Access, check in for the event and be shuttled back to the put-in to start the cleanup.  Provided shuttle buses will run at 12:15 and 12:50.

Our plan is to have all floaters on the water by 1 and off by 4:30, which should give us plenty of time to pick up trash and enjoy the afternoon!  We’re also relying on experienced OMP boaters to keep and eye on the other paddlers and lend a hand if needed.

No need to RSVP, but please plan to check in at Southwood Access before launching so that we have an accurate count of boaters and boats on the water.

Hope to see you there!
